Welcome to the Bloom-Carroll Local School District!

Welcome to the Bloom-Carroll Local School District!

I hope this letter finds all of you well and eager to begin another school year.  So much has happened over the summer with construction at the High School, Middle School and Primary School.  You will see so many changes as you arrive on the Carroll Campus and you will see changes every day for the next year or so.  The face of our campus will be built before your eyes and I am so excited that we will be able to watch this progress unfold before us.  These are exciting times for the Bloom-Carroll Local School District.

If you are not already aware, the Local Report Cards have been released and the Bloom-Carroll Local School District has earned the very highest honor of being designated as an Excellent with Distinction District.  We met 25 out of 26 indicators, met Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP), attained a 103.8 Performance Index out of 120 points and were above the Value Added measurement goal.  You can access the entire report card on the Ohio Department of Education website (reportcard.ohio.gov).  This is a huge accomplishment for our students, staff and the community.  It has been quoted that “It takes a village to raise a child” and for our district, the community has stepped up to the task of raising our next generation of achievers.  Job well done, B-C!

I want to take this time to wish the class of 2012 a very successful and memorable final year of their high school careers, a warm welcome to the class of 2025 as they begin their school careers, and for every class between the first and last ones, I urge you to make it a good one – a year that you will be proud to put in that scrapbook, that journal, that memory, even if it just a moment, or a year of moments, make it your best  year ever!

Parents as you send your children off to school each day, send them off with a good breakfast, a good night’s sleep, a smile, and be mindful of their daily school schedule so they may be successful in their educational endeavors.  A well-rested, well-fed child is both academically and physically equipped to deal with all that happens during the typical school day and gives them fuel to weather those days that are not quite so typical.  Consider getting involved in your child’s school as a volunteer, forge a partnership between home and school by keeping the lines of communication open between your and your child’s teacher,  or just be an occasional presence at school as a field trip chaperone or room parent to reassure your child that you are involved in their progress.

Teachers, I urge you to make it your personal goal to reach the unreachable student, motivate and challenge the student who is above-average, and not to overlook the ones in the middle who never cause any problems, work at their full potential and don’t seem to need any extra guidance, because I can assure you that each student in your classroom needs you on some level. Be there.

To the bus driver, who may be the first face some students see each day, give them a smile. It costs nothing but it may mean the difference in the day of that child. To the secretary, you are the face of the school. Everyone entering the school passes your desk at some point during the day. Be a positive and congenial face for the building. To the aides, cooks, lunchroom monitors, and custodians, students depend on you. Be the best you can be. You are important, people.  Be a force of good in the life of a child.  It will be paid back to you many times over.

Administrators, you are the educational leader of your respective buildings. Please reflect each day on what that means. It is a very monumental task that you have – to be a constant, firm, fair, understanding cohesive, and guiding force for the entire population of your school – from parents, students, staff and community. You are a very valuable link in the chain that makes our district great.

Have an all-around great year at B-C!
